Raybloc Wins Manufacturer of the Year at the 2025 BHTA Awards

Raybloc is proud to announce that we have been named “Manufacturer of the Year” at the 2025 British Healthcare Trades Association Awards. This recognition follows our shortlist in two categories, “Product of the Year” for our Sense X Screen and “Manufacturer of the Year”. It marks an important milestone for a company that has been shaping the future of radiation protection.

The award was accepted by our Managing Director, Gavin Mooney, a moment that reflected both celebration and responsibility. For more than twenty-five years, Raybloc has balanced traditional British craftsmanship with next generation engineering precision. Every door, window, panel, screen produced in our workshop is the result of meticulous teamwork, technical accuracy and a culture dedicated to excellence in radiation safety.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Technical Precision

Established in the 1990s, Raybloc has grown from a specialist workshop into one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of radiation shielding solutions for healthcare, veterinary, dental, industrial and research environments. Our process has always been defined by two principles. The first is the precision of engineering required to maintain compliance and safety in radiation-controlled areas. The second is a standard of craftsmanship that ensures every product leaving our facility is built to perform for years of service.

Our manufacturing combines CNC technology, RPA tested shielding techniques and hand finished detailing at every stage. From lead lined doorsets and internal windows to wall panels, Sense X Screens and copper Faraday cages for MRI suites, each product is created with the people who use these spaces in mind. This focus on human centred engineering is central to how Raybloc operates because in radiation protection there is no room for error.

Raybloc Team

A Team Dedicated to Protecting People Who Protect Others

At the centre of Raybloc’s success is a team whose expertise spans engineering, manufacturing, design consultancy and specialist installation. Every person plays a role in ensuring that the shielding we create performs exactly as required. It is this collective effort that earned us the title of “Manufacturer of the Year”.

We are proud to support architects, contractors, veterinarians, dental practices and NHS Trusts through the early stages of their projects. Our goal is to help them design compliant, comfortable and operationally efficient spaces from the start. When shielding is considered early, projects run smoother and clinical teams are better protected.

Raybloc’s ethos has always been simple. Protect the people who protect others. The BHTA Award affirms our commitment to this mission and recognises the quality and integrity that our customers rely on. It also shines a light on the incredible people behind the scenes who work relentlessly every day to uphold the standards that earned us this recognition.

Product Innovation that Enhances Safety and Experience

Many products have contributed to Raybloc’s reputation, including our market leading lead lined doorsets, RPA tested lead lined internal windows, X ray screens and bespoke shielding installations. However, the Sense X Screen has become a standout example of what happens when safety meets design innovation. Its integrated lighting technology has been shown to reduce anxiety for staff, children and patients, creating calmer imaging environments and supporting better healthcare experiences.

Being shortlisted for Product of the Year recognises not only the engineering behind the Sense X Screen but also the design philosophy guiding our entire product range. Raybloc builds shielding that protects clinical teams while also improving the spaces where patients receive care.

Looking Ahead

As Raybloc continues to grow nationally and internationally, our focus remains fixed on innovation, education and technical leadership within the radiation protection industry. Winning Manufacturer of the Year is both a celebration and a motivation to push standards even higher.

We extend our thanks to the BHTA, the judging panel, our partners and the many healthcare professionals who trust Raybloc products every day. This achievement belongs to every member of our team and to the clients who allow us to support essential work across the UK.

FAQs

Q

What does winning “Manufacturer of the Year” mean for Raybloc customers?

A

Winning “Manufacturer of the Year” is more than an award for us. It reflects the trust our customers place in our products and the responsibility we carry with every single order. It means our manufacturing quality, compliance standards and installation practices are recognised at the highest industry level. For our customers, it is reassurance that they are choosing products engineered with precision, tested for safety, and supported by a team that is committed to getting every detail right. The award sets a benchmark that we intend to uphold on every project, no matter how small or complex.

Q

What are the benefits of choosing a UK-based manufacturer for radiation protection products?

A

Choosing a UK-based manufacturer gives customers faster lead times, direct technical support, and consistent quality control. Radiation shielding is highly specialised, and even small design details can affect compliance. Being local means we can offer hands-on guidance from the early stages of a project, coordinate with RPAs, and respond quickly to design changes. Every product is manufactured under the same standards, tested within the UK, and supported by a team that understands the regulations behind healthcare and imaging environments.

Q

How does Raybloc integrate technology like CNC machining into its manufacturing process?

A

Raybloc integrates CNC machining to ensure precision, repeatability and efficiency in every product we manufacture. CNC technology allows us to cut, profile and prepare materials with millimetre accuracy, which is essential when working with dense materials like lead and laminated components. It also reduces the margin for human error, speeds up production, and enables us to deliver consistent quality at scale.
